Orientation Frequently Asked Questions

What will we do at orientation?

Orientation is designed to ease the transition to the Chaminade community and provide a foundation for your academic and social success. You will learn about vital campus resources as well as the opportunities available that supplement and enhance educational experience.  You will make connections to many of the services and people, including fellow students, who can enrich your overall experience at Chaminade. You will also have an opportunity to visit the business office, financial aid, academic advising, and the bookstore.

Is attendance at orientation required?

Yes. Attendance is mandatory on Friday for all first-year, transfer, and exchange students. Events on other days are optional, but you are strongly encouraged to attend.

Where do I report for orientation check-in?

Check-in for orientation will be in the Vi and Paul Loo Student Center located in Clarence T.C. Ching Hall.

What do I need to bring with me to orientation?

  • Comfortable clothing and walking shoes. (Orientation programming is held in various buildings across campus and walking is required during your session.)
  • Sweater or jacket (some buildings may be cold)
  • Umbrella
  • Spending money (snacks, bookstore, etc.)
  • Photo ID
  • Backpack or handbag to carry orientation materials
  • Immunization records (if not already submitted)
  • List of questions for campus offices
  • Pen and paper

If family members or guests attend, will they participate in orientation with me?

Sessions for parents and family members run concurrent to the student orientation sessions. While the sessions take place at the same time, most of the two program activities are separate.

What do I do for ADA Accommodations?

In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the ADA Amendments Act (2008), and the university’s mission, Chaminade University is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities through the on-campus Counseling Center.

The Counseling Center must receive all documents including completion of a verification form from an appropriate professional at least two weeks prior to the time that accommodations are needed. Where can I park during orientation?

Chaminade students and ‘ohana (family) are allowed to park in stalls marked “CUH” on campus or in the parking structure. Do not park in stalls marked “SLS” or any blue reserved stalls. Violators will be towed at their own expense. If you are planning to park on-campus during the semester, parking permits are available for purchase at the Business Office, located in the lobby of Clarence T.C. Ching Hall. When do I get my Chaminade ID Card (CID)?

ID photos may be taken over the summer and during new student orientation in the Client Services Office, located on the street level of the Sullivan Family Library (orientation staff will be available to direct you). Students who take their photo over the summer can pick up their ID during orientation check-in.

Where can my family and guests stay during orientation?

We receive many requests for hotel accommodation recommendations for families coming to Oahu for campus visits or orientation. We cannot recommend any specific hotel. However, the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau has a comprehensive list indexed by the type of facility and other characteristics. There are many good hotels close to Chaminade in Waikiki. On the GoHawaii website, find the “Vacation Directory” sidebar and click on the “Accommodations” tab.
